You are asked to read the handout of selections from philosophers (Plato, Aristotle, Galileo, Descartes) by Thrusday August 24. The following questions will be help you focus on what I would like you to learn about the readings. Not all selections from each philosopher will deal with each question, but be alert when one of your readings deals with one of these questions.

1. What is a Mind (Soul)? How is it related to the body? For example, can the sould exist without the body?

2. Do animals have souls?

3. Does the mind contain faithful copies of things in the real world? If so, what does the mind copy?

4. How does perception work? Note particularly the treatment of vision and touch.

5. What methods can be used to understand the mind better?
