World AIDS Week is held each year at UH in conjunction with World AIDS Day. World AIDS Day is a worldwide event designed to bring awareness to the fight against HIV. Designed to honor those individuals living with HIV and to memorialize those who have died, World AIDS Day is held annually on December 1. In an effort to bring awareness to college campuses and student life, many universities honor the day through education and advocacy. Starting in 2017, the University of Houston expanded this to include events throughout the week.
By attending World AIDS Week, participants will be able to:
- Understand how HIV/AIDS have impacted society from a local to global level.
- Recognize how safe sex practices can be integrated into their lives.
- Identify campus and community health resources, STI testing, and how to access them.
