*Case Book BL Harley MS 2143 fo. 56r. A prisoner is to bear his own charges in traveling to sustain his punishment. Fowler, a defendant, at Sir Gilbert Gerrard’s suit for a perjury and being ordered to stand on the pillory at Stafford moved the court that some order might be taken for easing him of his charges in going and sustaining his punishment and the court for the ease of the poor defendant ordered that the warden of the Fleet should after his punishment deliver him unto the gaoler of Stafford there to remain until he be delivered by the order of the court and not to be brought back to the Fleet at the poor defendant’s charge.
