Notes, Additions and Corrections

  • Case Book BL Harley MS 2143 fo. 37r. A misdemeanor in usurping the name and office of an herald by that means getting money to give arms to whom he pleased. William Dakyn for usurping and taking upon him the name of a herald by the name of Norroy king of arms, and by colour of the same title had made his letters patents of deputation to one Massey setting his hand and two counterfeit seals thereto authorising him thereby to give and take arms from whom he listed, and to collect certain fees as due to the Earl Marshal, whereby he did visit certain shires and got £39; for which he was adjudged with paper to the pillory in every shire where he thus practised and to lose one of his ears on the pillory and so to be removed to the Fleet.
