Right trusty and Right entirely beloved Coosyn, we grete yow well. Whereas it hath bene allweise thought mete, that if any succor shuld be gyven by yow, to the removing of the French, the same shuld be under the Conduct of the Lord Grey, we do consider that it wer also mete to provide that some other trusty and mete Person wer sent with the Lord Grey, to the Intent, that if any mishapp shuld come to hym in the sayd Jorny, which God forbidd, there might be one reddy to take that Charge, and conduct our People to there Preservation, and Accomplishment of our Seruice: Wherfore we haue thought mete to make Choise of Sir James Croffts, Knt, our Captayn of Barwyck, as one for respect of Knowledge and Trust specially to be chosen. And consideryng this Warning is very short for him, so as, we doubt, he shall not be hable to putt hymself in such good Furniture, as his desyre wold be, therfore ye maye perswade hym, in respect of our present Service, not to prolong any time herin, but to enterr with the Lord Grey, as one having no other particular Charge, than hymself will be content withal, except in Cafe of miscarryage of the said Lord Grey. And for his intertaynment during the tyme of his Absence, our Pleasure is yow shall therin determyn that which shall seme convenient for his Degree, with authorite to be Chieff of Counsell with the Lord Grey, and the second Person there for our Service, in Cafe of the lack of the Lord Grey, to take his Charge and Intertaynment. And instede of our sayd Captain in Barwyk, our Pleasure is, that ye shall delyver the same Charge to Sir Raff Sadler, Knt. who may haue the Charge also, duryng the Lord Grey's, Absence, of the Wardenry of the East and middle Marchees, giving to hum the Choice of some good Captains to remayn with him in Barwyk.
