Jan 1559  From the Counsayle to the Duke of Norfolk's Grace, touching Valentin Browne

From a Minute of Secretary Cecill.

AFTER our harty Commendations to your good Lordshipp. The bryngar herof, Valentyne Browne, one of the Quene's Maiestie's Auditors, is sent downe thyther with his Majestys Treasure, that is to say, with sixteen thousand Pounds, for such Charges as shall growe uppon all Causees under your Lieutenancy, to be expended uppon your Warrant; and four thousand Pounds to be payd in Part of the Dett due to the Garrison of Barwyk at the 12th of December last: And as soone as he hath delyvered this Treasure there, it is ordred that he shuld take a View of the Treasoror of Barwyk's accompt, and of Abyngton's for Victell; for doing whereof, your Grace shall doo well to command, that the Accomptants and there Ministers be diligent for there Attendance uppon hym. And if he shall behaue hymself in this Seruice, as he hath done in the lyke both at Callise, at Berwyk, in Ireland and other Placees, he shall suerly haue nede of your Mayntenance and Fauour; for otherwise he may percase offend the Accomptants in ministryng of Right unto them for furderance of hir Majestie's Seruice. And so we praye your Grace to haue consideration of hym, as of one at all tymes well approved by us in the Prince's Seruice, without yelding to any private Respect.
