  • Case Book BL Harley MS 2143 fo. 34r. Misdemeanor and extortion a counterfeit purveyor having gotten one the Queen’s liveries on his back extorted money from diverse by that means. Attorney Rex, plaintiff; Wood alias Brown: charged that the defendant having Her Highness’s livery upon his back repaired to diverse persons and under colour that he was (as he said a purveyor) for wheat for the ships charged them to bring him to Hertford certain quarters of wheat, and after that talked with them and extorted of them sundry sums of money to spare the delivery of the said corn for which abuse and deceit being a counterfeit and having bought one of Her Majesty’s liveries as he confessed for that purpose he was committed for a year, judged to stand on the pillory, to have one ear nailed, with paper both at Westminster and in the country, and the coat to be pulled off his back and to hang by all the time he did stand on the pillory, to make restitution and £20 fine.   • Case Book BL Harley MS 2143 fo. 50v. Abusing a justice of peace sitting on the bench. Wood, armiger, plaintiff; Sir Richard Bulkeley, knight. For a misdemeanor in the defendant offered the plaintiff sitting on the bench as justice of peace with him in using indiscreet and unseemly speeches unto him and playing with the plaintiff’s nose in disgraceful manner and for striking a poor man and committing him passing by him unreverently as he sat at a muster, £100 fine and Fleet.
