  • The Ishams were primarily from Northamptonshire and London. Particularly prominent in the sixteenth century were three brothers Isham (Gregory, John, and  Henry), the sons of Euseby Isham, who were born in Northamptonshire and then had successful careers as mercers and merchant adventurers in London. Gregory purchased an estate at Braunston but died fairly young. John retired to Lamport, Northamptonshire. Henry remained in the London area through the end of his life around 1595.  An excellent resource on the Ishams of the sixteenth century is "John Isham: Mercer and Merchant Adventurer Two Account Books of a London Merchant in the Reign of Elizabeth I" by G. D. Ramsay. Aside from the Ishams of Northamptonshire and London, there was a Henry Isham who lived in Isle Brewers (Somerset). [from Joshua Isom]
