The Conrad N. Hilton Ballroom once again played host to the premier event of the Energy Coalition, the 7th annual Energy Banquet. Professionals, lawmakers, students and alums joined for a memorable evening, celebrating advancement in energy as well as allowing for networking and learning opportunities alongside the who’s who of industry. On the heels of the banquet’s hiatus in 2021, the night also allowed the University of Houston’s resilience and resolve to shine through.
“This banquet is a celebration of the innovation, determination, and grit our campus embodies day in and day out,” Energy Coalition Chair Neha Bhat said.
The night featured a trio of keynote speakers: Subodh Saxena from Nabors, and Oscar Herdocia and May Shek from Shell. Each of them discussed the future of energy, specifically how their organizations are joining the front line marching toward the energy transition. Key takeaways included emphasizing sustainability’s role in the future, shifting to focusing on shared purpose with their employees, and working toward net-zero for carbon emissions by 2050.
Energy Coalition Vice Chair of Operations Abby Chopra described the evening as the culmination of the work by the Energy Coalition as well as the Energy Advisory Board, the latter of whom were recognized for their efforts across campus.
“The Energy Banquet is a great way to connect with people who have their own unique perspective on energy,” Chopra said. “It offers a way to engage in conversations that teach you more about the field while also challenging ideas that already exist in your mind – all while dining and having fun.”
