G-Force Work-Study Mentorship Program

Program Overview

The G-Force Work-Study Mentorship Program seeks to hire college students to serve as mentors to assist students through outreach, mentoring, and tutoring activities. Mentors promote higher education to local area high school students as well as help with retention for current college students. The primary goal of the program is to improve student access, success, and completion of higher education.

The program was created with the passage of Senate Bill 1050 by the 80th Texas Legislature and funded by a grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Funds are used to pay for college students to be employed on a part-time basis.

The role of this program is to help meet the goals and objectives of the Texas 60x30 initiative. 60x30TX was launched in 2015 with the overarching goal of building a highly educated and skilled workforce. By 2030, the state wants at least 60 percent of Texans ages 25-34 to have a certificate or degree.
