Dan Garza

dan garzaDan Garza received his Bachelor of Science degree in Technology Leadership and Supervision and his Master of Science in Technology Project Management at University of Houston and has been instrumental in leading projects to meet MD Anderson's strategic objectives in providing the best cancer care in the world. He is an exemplary leader and has recently become a UHAA Life Member. He continues to be an influence on his family, the University of Houston, and the city of Houston.

Dan Garza began his career in Drafting Technology in San Antonio where, shortly after, he was hired by Texas Instruments where his drafting schematics were used in building the 7400 series of transistor-transistor logic (TTL) chips, in the 1960s. In the 70’s, Dan was drafted into the Army and was shipped out to Germany where he learned about radios and providing support for a Nike Hercules missile site. On his return he enrolled in Electronic Classes and later obtaining a First Class license and continued his career in Electronic Technology. He was later hired by Southwestern Bell, where he worked as a Central Office technician in Houston. He was later offered a job with Chevron working as a PBX technician, he became a supervisor and later an Information Technology Project Manager. He moved on to Compaq Computers which later was bought out by Hewlett Packard working as a supervisor and an IT Project Manager. In 2008 he moved on to UT MD Anderson Cancer Center where he is currently employed as Sr. IT Project Manager. He has received recognition by the local Project Management Institute for MD Anderson Projects, and has provided PMI Project Management training for MD Anderson personnel.

Dan has and continues to make a huge impact on the Houston community and continues to guide others to become leaders. Dan is a mentor, provides encouragement, and helps everyone whenever he can. He encourages self-development and teaches those around him, because to him the team concept is the best environment you can have.
