Personal Statement

Social Work is both science and art. Effective practice requires knowledge of context, theory, research & skills as well as creative approaches to impact the complex challenges we face. As a social work practitioner for over 15 years, I used both art and science to address inequities in infant mortality, children’s issues and health. As a member of the faculty, my passion is to build the capacity of students to successfully navigate cultural dynamics, improve structural equity and design sustainable change. My teaching focuses on professional skill development, self-awareness and competent practice because I intensely believe education remains to be one of the most powerful tools in the pursuit of justice.
