Through internships, students are able to integrate their learning with practical application and to develop valuable skills and connections. CITE grant-funded internships connect to students to professional experiences in such fields as the arts, civil service, community development, education, entrepreneurship, and STEM.
The Bauer in DC Fellowship Program is an experiential opportunity, led by Colleen Davies, Associate Dean Frank Kelley, Dean Paul Pavlou, and Dr. Andra Oliva Miljanic. Students live, learn, and intern in Washington, D.C. for the spring semester, witnessing the intersection of business and government. Past Fellows’ internships have included: The White House, Securities and Exchange Commission, State Department, Supreme Court, Department of Commerce, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Human Rights Campaign, and Congressional offices.
Through this program led by Monica Thompson, students intern on-campus in order to gain skills that employers desire.  Students will also participate in workshops for enrichment, financial literacy, and career development. The program is designed to successfully transition students into their undergraduate journey and to foster a sense of belonging so that they can persist and conquer any challenges they face at the University of Houston. 
This new program, led by Billy Hawkins and Todd Romero of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, placed five students with Mayor’s Office initiatives on homelessness, education, cultural affairs, economic development, and international and global affairs. In the summer of 2020, this program will increase student participation from five students to eight.
This grant to Barbara Stewart and Olivia Johnson supports the Coogs NRF Engagement Mentors Program. This program engages students ​across campus with ​the National Retail Federation (NRF) programs via   active involvement. Student Engagement Mentors will participate in high caliber NRF professional training and events to   provide high-impact co-curricular activities that prepare students for professional success​ in the retail industry and entrepreneurship. Campus and national NRF competitive events will engage and reward student achievements. 
This grant for the Hobby School of Public Affairs‘ new Harris Fellows program will offer University of Houston undergraduates the opportunity to work full-time as summer interns with Harris County government offices focusing on constituent service and policy analysis. Students will also earn academic credit in political science for their internship.

Through a strategic partnership between the Honors College and the Osgood Center for International Studies, up to ten students will participate in the Washington Experience Leadership and Professional Development program over the summer. Through this program, students intern in a variety of institutions in Washington, D.C. and attend seminars on policy issues and leadership development. This grant, which was awarded to Keri Myrick, will support student scholarships to reduce out-of-pocket expenses and cover program fees.   
The Pre-Law Internship, developed by Dr. Jeffrey Church and Dr. Lydia Tiede, gives undergraduate students real-world experience of legal practice to help them to determine if they would like to pursue careers in law. 
During the Internship in Retailing and Consumer Science, led by Shirley Ezell, interns learn to systematically evaluate the benefits and performance of an organization so that they can contribute to management, merchandising, financial, e-commerce and training responsibilities. Interns also learn to use social media as a business tool for engaging with and serving community retailers more fully. This experience prepares interns for executive-level responsibilities in the retail industry and gives them valuable insight into how a successful organization must strategically plan, innovate, lead and sustain a competitive advantage.
The Honors College has partnered with the Smithsonian Institution to provide four-week summer internships for undergraduate students since 2015. CITE funding provided additional student support while expanding this ongoing partnership. Past placements have included the National Zoo, The Smithsonian Science Center, The Center for Folk Life and Cultural Heritage, the Museum of Natural History, the Museum of African Art and the Smithsonian Gardens among others. This program is led by Alison Leland of the Honors College and Mary Ann Ottinger of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. CITE funding for the program has been renewed; it will continue in the summer of 2021.
This grant to Laura Zubiate (CLASS) will support the development of an internship program within SPAN 3339 Spanish for the Global Professions. This internship will provide students with real-world experience that will improve their communication skills, enhance their cultural competencies and increase their awareness of community needs and their own social responsibility. 
Led by Elizabeth Gregory and Guillermo de los Reyes of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, this project led by supports the development and expansion of the infrastructure supporting the internship courses in the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies major and the GLBT minor.
The World Cultures and Literatures Internship Program, developed by Emran El-Badawi and led by Mohan Ambikaipaker, is an internship program that gives undergraduate students the opportunity to apply language, culture, and global studies into the workplace.
