Mastering the Craft of Research with Distinguished Professors, Dr. David Fancis and Dr. Elena Grigorenko

The first ten to arrive receive a free lunch box. RSVP for preferences. Dr. David Francis will interview Dr. Elena Grigorenko and will discuss and share resources related to research from their own internationally recognized careers.

Dr. David J. Francis is the Hugh Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen Distinguished Chair of Quantitative Methods and former Chairman of the Department of Psychology (2002-2014) at the University of Houston, where he also serves as Director of the Texas Institute for Measurement, Evaluation, and Statistics. Dr. Francis obtained a doctoral degree in Clinical-Neuropsychology from the University of Houston in 1985 with a specialization in Quantitative Methods.  He is a Fellow of Division 5 (Measurement, Evaluation, and Statistics) of the American Psychological Association and is currently Chairman of the Executive Board of the Council of Graduate Departments of Psychology.  He is also a member of the National Research Council’s (NRC) Board on Testing and Assessment, and served on the NRC’s panel on Developmental Outcomes and Assessment of Young Children.  He is a frequent advisor to the Department of Education on statistical issues, assessment and accountability, and English Language Learners. He was a recipient of the 2006 Albert J. Harris Award from the International Reading Association, and has received the University of Houston’s Teaching Excellence Award and the Excellence in Research and Scholarship Award, and in 2008 received the Esther Farfel Award, which recognizes career accomplishments in research, teaching, and service, and is the highest award given to faculty members at the University of Houston.

Dr. Elena Grigorenko is a Hugh Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Director of the GENESIS Lab at UH. She has a wide interest in a number of areas in psychology, genetics, and neuroscience. Correspondingly, she has (co-)mentored students in various graduate programs (Linguistics, Statistics, Psychology, Genetics, Education, and Neuroscience) and several undergraduate majors in universities in the Russian Federation and United States. Most of Dr. Grigorenko’s projects are highly collaborative and interdisciplinary, involving scientists from various fields and various countries. She has served as editor-in-chief and board member for a number of professional journals and engaged in reviews for various federal and private funding agencies from different countries around the world.
