UH Professor elected as Fellow of the Regional Science Association International

Dr. Janet E. Kohlhase, Professor of Economics, was elected as a Fellow of the Regional Science Association International (RSAI) and gave the keynote address at the RSAI World Congress in Goa, India.  The RSAI promotes the scholarly exchange of ideas and knowledge that apply to urban and regional phenomena in North America and across the globe.

The UH College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts to Host the Colour of Music Festival

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts are proud to welcome the Colour of Music Festival to campus this year. From Wednesday, September 12 to Sunday, September 16, the “Petit” version of the festival will feature African American classical musicians from around the world performing organ, piano, vocal, chamber and orchestral works. Through live concerts and panel discussions, internationally recognized musicians and scholars will showcase the impact of African American classical artists on American and world culture.

UH Researchers Win $1M Award To Boost Student Success

The National Science Foundation awarded a $999,029 grant to a team of University of Houston researchers for a new program aimed at studying the impact of scholarships, engagement, and other support on low-income students and their academic success. Diana De La Rosa-Pohl, Instructional Assistant Professor at the Cullen College of Engineering, is a primary investigator on the NSF-funded study on student success. We are trying to do something different with the scholarship program,” De La Rosa-Pohl said. “Instead of focusing on the financial side of it, we wanted to focus on the engagement side of it and use the financial piece as an incentive to attract the students.”

UH Professor Receives 2018 Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Clinical Practice Award

Dr. Patricia Schrader, who completed her Ph.D. in Nursing at Texas Woman’s University in May 2018, has also won the prestigious Clinical Practice Award from the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses. This is a national award, awarded to one person. There are 12,000+ members in the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses. It is the only specialty nursing organization dedicated to the practice of medical-surgical nursing.

National Institute of Health Awards UH College of Pharmacy $3.5M Award

Notice of Award from National Institute of Health states that Dr. Vincent Tam’s R01 entitled “Personalized Antimicrobial Combinations to Combat Resistance” has been approved for $3.5M.  This is one of the largest awards in the history for the College of Pharmacy.
