UHCOP Alumni Among 2020 TSHP Research Poster Competition Honorees

September 28 — Four UH College of Pharmacy alumni have been honored for their research poster presentations at the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists 2020 Virtual Annual Seminar Sept. 24-27.

The recognized alumni and their presentations in the multi-category competition bosted by the TSHP Research & Education Foundation were: 

  • Houston Program alumna Phuoc (Anne) Nguyen, Pharm.D., M.S. ('15), pharmacy manager at Houston Methodist West Hospital, won in the Practitioner - Administrative/Practice Management category for her project, "Leveraging Technology to Reduce the Storage and Destruction of Patients Own Medications (PTOMs)."
  • Jimmy Do, Pharm.D. ('12), clinical pharmacist at Houston Methodist West Hospital, received an honorable mention in the Practitioner - Clinical category for his project, "The Stewardship Handshake – Capitalizing on a Proven Strategy with Exparel®."
  • Nancy Ordonez, Pharm.D. ('98), BCPS, assistant dean for experiential programs and clinical assistant professor at UHCOP, was recognized with an honorable co-mention in the Practitioner - Education category for her project, "Enhancing the Pharmacy Student’s Critical Thinking & Communication Skills Utilizing Clinical Seminar Debates."
  • An Dieu, Pharm.D. ('19), emergency medicine clinical pharmacist at HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress, received an honorable mention in the Resident/Fellow/Post-Graduate - PGY1 for his project, "Rivaroxaban and apixaban prescribing practices in renally impaired patients with venous thromboembolism," produced while he was a PGY1 pharmacy practice resident at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center.
