The deadline for students to apply for a new Sri Lankan American Association of Houston scholarship has been extended to Feb. 27, 2009.
The association recently established the $1,000 scholarship for an international student, with preference going to students from Sri Lanka. The scholarship will be awarded for the spring 2009 semester.
The merit-based award is open to all full-time undergraduate majors in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics with a 3.0 GPA, with the above preferences considered.
The University of Houston Foundation is administering the scholarship. An international student who receives the scholarship would qualify for in-state tuition.
The association seeks to foster social and cultural interaction among the Sri Lankan American community and disseminate its rich culture and values to the mainstream American community.
