Oral Presentation Covered Tectonic Evolution of South Atlantic Rifted Margins

Kyle Reuber (Ph.D. ’17), a May Ph.D. graduate from University of Houston’s Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, won a Top Ten Oral Presentation Award at the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Annual Convention and Exhibition held in Houston, April 2-5, 2017.

The Top 10 Oral Presentation Awards were selected by a panel of judges from over 400 oral presentations by both professionals and students at the meeting. Oral presentations were scored by the judges based on the overall quality of the talk, data and interpretations, and the responses of the presenter to questions posed by the judges.

Reuber’s presentation, entitled “Asymmetrical Conjugate Margins of the South Atlantic: Effects of Variable Basement Architecture and Magmatic Additions on the Continental Rifting Process and Petroleum Systems,” provided a summary of one chapter of his EAS Ph.D. dissertation that included his interpretation of deep seismic reflection imagery provided to the study by ION Geophysical.

Co-authors of the presentation included Dr. Paul Mann, Reuber’s Ph.D. supervisor at UH, and Dr. Jim Pindell, Reuber’s co-worker at ION Geophysical.

Reuber worked full-time with ION as a Ph.D. student and completed his Ph.D. in May 2017. He is currently a full-time employee at ION.

At the same meeting, Reuber also won the AAPG Jules Braunstein best poster session presentation award for a poster related to his Ph.D. research and related work at ION Geophysics. (See Related Article)
