Introduction to Linux

Speaker: Dr. Babu Sundaram, CS IT Manager

This course serves as a hands-on introduction to using a Linux server system from command line interface (CLI). Basic overview would be given about Linux Kernel, the way file system is organized and the various commands CLI to interact and use the system effectively. The lab PCs will be used to remote login to a Linux server and students are not expected to bring any device on their own.

Web Technologies for Windows and Linux
WAMP, LAMP software stacks

Speaker: Dr. Babu Sundaram, CS IT Manager

This course will cover the ubiquitous web technologies that are essential in developing and operating any web-based ecommerce and the typical software stack commonly used to achieve the same. Given the scope, this class would mostly involve live demos by the instructor and no hands-on training is involved.

Code Revision Control
Git and Subversion

Speaker: Dr. Babu Sundaram, CS IT Manager

This course would cover major code revision control software and tools that are essential to present day programmers. The time would be spent on two major tools: Git and Subversion. Hands-on experience would be given to basic usage of these tools and how to check in and check out software to enable distributed and concurrent editing of code while having revision control. The lab PCs will be used to remote login to a Linux server and students are not expected to bring any device on their own.

Typesetting in Latex
Research papers, thesis/dissertations, and more

Speaker: Dr. Babu Sundaram, CS IT Manager

Latex is a high-quality typesetting that is essential to production of academic, technical and scientific documentation. This course will give an introduction to using Latex and some of the useful IDEs that make it efficient and easy to produce documentation such as thesis and such. Instructions will be sent out the week prior to class advising students about the preparations needed for this class.
