Richard Bonnin Named Assistant Director,
Ann Holdsworth to Focus on Science and Research
The University of Houston Communications Office recently hired
a new assistant director and a media relations representative who
will assist in representing the university’s science, technology
and research to the media.
Richard Bonnin, former internal communications coordinator for
The University of Texas at Austin, fills the assistant director
position. He is responsible for assisting the director of University
Communication in the management of the external and internal communication
programs, providing supervisory support and production oversight
while serving as a contributing writer and media relations representative.
“Richard is a seasoned professional whose experience will
be invaluable in helping us keep the media, the public and our own
campus community informed about the university,” said Eric
Gerber, director of University Communication.
Bonnin has 25 years of experience in print journalism and public
relations, including eight years as a reporter with the Beaumont
Enterprise in Southeast Texas. Bonnin joined UT Austin in 1990 as
a writer in the Office of Public Affairs and was named publications
editor a year later. He was appointed as coordinator for internal
communications in 2001.
“I am excited about the opportunity to work with a talented
team of professionals in University Communication,” Bonnin
said. “The University of Houston continues to grow in size
and stature. There are great stories to tell about the teaching,
research and public service going on here. I look forward to contributing
to that effort.”

Ann Holdsworth, a former writer and editor with the Texas Comptroller
of Public Accounts, joins the external communications team as a
media relations representative and will be partnering with senior
science writer Lisa Merkl to cover the College of Natural Sciences
and Mathematics, Cullen College of Engineering, College of Pharmacy,
College of Optometry, College of Technology and Division of Research.
“Since I’m a Houston native, helping promote my hometown
university is very rewarding,” Holdsworth said. “I look
forward to working with staff, professors and students to get the
word out on what this university has to offer.”
Holdsworth has seven years of experience with print and broadcast
journalism, including working with KXAN News 36, the Austin NBC
affiliate; KUT 90.5, the Austin NPR affiliate; and 91.7 FM KVRX
in Austin. While working for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts,
Holdsworth was a staff writer for award-winning publication, Fiscal
Notes, and editor for the award-winning Texas Innovator and Window
on Texas Local Government.
Holdsworth has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from The
University of Texas at Austin and master’s degree in political
science from the University of California, Riverside. Holdsworth
