‘CINDERELLA’ GETS UH’S
2006 CHILDREN’S THEATRE FEST OFF ON RIGHT FOOT
Every summer, the University of Houston is the place where fairy
tales come to life thanks the Children’s Theatre Festival
(CTF). This year’s event gets things off on the right foot
– glass slipper or no glass slipper – with “Cinderella.”
This original musical adaptation of the classic story will be performed
June 19 – 30 in Wortham Theatre in the Cynthia Woods Mitchell
Center for the Arts at UH.
Each year, CTF attracts 25,500 children and families to its plays
that feature professional actors and commissioned works from esteemed
theater veterans from around the country. This production of “Cinderella”
was written and directed by Sidney Berger, director of UH’s
School of Theatre, with music by Rob Landes.
“Regardless of age, live theater is a wonderful experience,”
Berger said. “This annual event is not only entertaining,
but it also teaches children and perhaps even some parents about
the magic of seeing a production on stage. This is a much different
experience than watching television or films. The audience actually
feels involved with what’s happening right there in front
of them, and they leave with a lasting impression.”
Berger and Bren Dubay founded CTF in 1978, and since then, the
festival has become a summer tradition in Houston.
Tickets are $9 for adults and $8 for children 14 and under. For
