STATE COMMISSIONER ON HIGHER ED, HOUSTON
MAYOR JOIN TEXAS EDUCATORS
AT UH CONFERENCE TO DISCUSS CLOSING THE EDUCATION GAPS
Texas Commissioner of Higher Education, Raymund Paredes, and Texas
Commissioner of Education, Shirley J. Neeley will have “A
Conversation on the Education Pipeline” with education advocates
from around the state when the Fourth Biennial Convocation on Public
Education gathers at the University of Houston. “Closing the
Gap by Closing the Gaps: Successful Transitions from Preschool to
College” takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, March
28 at the UH University Center.
The event is open to educators from preschool to college, business
and community leaders, parents and students. Registration is $40
and may be paid at the door.
“We’re fortunate to host this important gathering of
educators and supporters to share ideas about student success and
institutional excellence,” Robert Wimpelberg, dean of the
UH College of Education, said.
The convocation is presented in conjunction with the American Leadership
Forum and the Houston A+ Challenge.
Houston Mayor Bill White will welcome the gathering prior to the
morning panel discussion, led by Commissioners Paredes and Neeley.
Harold “Bud” Hodgkinson, director of the Center for
Demographic Policy at the Institute for Educational Leadership in
Washington D. C., will present the afternoon keynote address on
“Demographic Trends that Call for Change.”
In addition, participants will choose from various learning sessions
that cover preschool through college issues.
