JOHN LENNON BUS ON A MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR
TO UH
The creative spirit of John Lennon continues to inspire young songwriters,
and is the driving force behind a
high-tech musical transport that soon will arrive at the University
of Houston.
The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus will visit UH’s School
of Communication from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4. The
bus, which is a mobile audio-visual recording studio, will be open
for free public tours and demonstrations throughout the day. It
will be parked in between UH’s Fine Arts Building and the
Communication Building.
Equipped with musical instruments, multi-media technology and high-tech
recording gear, the bus is a non-profit studio focused on spreading
its namesake’s passion for music to students around the country.
Visitors will be able to learn about the bus’ hardware and
software and listen to music recorded by students at its other stops.
A limited number of complimentary gift bags containing free Maxell
batteries and issues of Guitar Player magazine also will be available.
“We’re pleased to host this unique vehicle that fosters
education in creativity and technology, two traits we value in our
communication students,” said Beth Olson, director of the
School of Communication.
Since 1998, the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus has visited schools
around the country. Students have recorded music and video projects
on the bus, and top pop acts have performed on it, including Bob
Weir, the Veronicas and John Legend. Other notable acts who have
stepped on the bus are the Black Eyed Peas, Justin Timberlake and
Carlos Santana.
Principal sponsors of the bus include Maxell Corporation, Roland,
Apple Computer and the NAMM, the International Music Products Association.
