OPEN AUDITIONS SCHEDULED FOR UH’S
ALBEE NEW PLAYWRIGHTS WORKSHOP
The University of Houston’s School of Theatre is hosting
open auditions for the Edward Albee New Playwrights Workshop from
3 to 6 p.m. Feb. 17-19 in the School of Theatre’s rehearsal
room.
A variety of performers are needed for the workshop’s five
productions, to be staged in late April. Actors of Asian and Indian
descent are especially encouraged to audition. Auditions are not
restricted to members of the UH community. Those outside the university
may also try out for roles. Auditioning actors must prepare two
monologues. Both monologues should run a combine length of no longer
than three-minutes.
In 1989, Pulitzer Prize-winning dramatist Edward Albee founded
the workshop, in which student playwrights submit scripts to be
selected for development and production. This year’s plays
were chosen by Pulitzer
Prize-winning playwright and UH faculty member Lanford Wilson.
The workshop’s productions will be staged April 26 –
30 in the School of Theatre’s Jose Quintero Lab Theatre.
