Joel S. Blumberg, M.D.

Joel S. Blumberg, M.D., is an associate professor for the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. In addition to caring for patients at the UH Health Family Care Center, he is responsible for teaching and curriculum development in the area of pediatrics for the College of Medicine.

Blumberg comes to the Fertitta Family College of Medicine from Baylor College of Medicine – San Antonio, where he served as the pediatric continuity clinic director. While there, he was named the 2017 Rotation Director of the Year. His research has focused on pediatric resident medical education.

He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Texas Medical Association and the Academic Pediatric Association. He has experience in primary care pediatrics, hospital administration and medical education. Blumberg has served past terms as chief of pediatrics at Seton Northwest Hospital and St. David's Hospital in Austin, Texas. He has provided volunteer service to the People’s Community Clinic and served on the board of Any Baby Can in Austin, Texas.

Blumberg earned a bachelor’s in psychology and a bachelor’s in zoology at the University of Texas at Austin before attending medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
