A native from Denver, Colorado, Ayo Derbyshire is entering his junior year at the Colorado State University School of Music studying horn performance under Dr. John McGuire. Ayo has also studied with Colorado Symphony musicians Kolio Plachkov, Fritz Foss, and Carolyn Kunicki. Recently Ayo was awarded First Place in the Siegfried’s Call Engelbert Schmid Horn Competition, and as a result, spent a week in Germany learning from some of the finest European horn professors. Outside of horn, Ayo enjoys spending time outdoors such as running, playing frisbee or soccer.
