Danny Vinson (Euphonium) joined the faculty of Moores School of Music in 2011. He began college teaching in 1994 and high school private teaching in 1980. He has taught at such distinguished institutions as the University of Rhode Island, the University of Connecticut, the University of North Texas, East Texas Baptist University, and Tyler Jr. College. Besides his current position as euphonium instructor at the University of Houston, he also currently teaches at Blinn Jr. College, at the University of Texas at Tyler, and at Kilgore (Jr.) College. In addition, he has been on faculty of the annual North Germany Low Brass Workshop in Jever, Germany since 2001. For 22 years he was euphoniumist in the U.S. Coast Guard Band (one of America's five premier military service bands). He served as Principal Euphonium for 11 years and soloed countless times with the band on national tours and in the band's home port of New London, CT. Currently he performs with Alchemy, the oldest active euphonium-tuba quartet in existence. He performs as a member of the trombone section of the Longview Symphony Orchestra in Longview, Texas, and he performs on both euphonium and trombone with the British Brass Band Society of Louisiana based in Shreveport. He has performed on euphonium, trombone, and bass trumpet both as soloist and in the ensembles of many other fine bands and orchestras including the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, the New York Pops Orchestra, the U.S. Army Orchestra in Washington, DC; the New London (CT) Symphony Orchestra, Keith Brion's New Sousa Band, Mr. Jack Daniel's Original Silver Cornet Band, the American Band of Providence, RI; the Special Combined Military Bands of Honolulu, Hawaii and of Newport News, Virginia; the East Texas Symphonic Band, the Dallas Wind Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the Sherman Symphony Orchestra, the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra of Houston Grand Opera; and with symphonic brass ensembles such as the Summit Brass Ensemble and Hot Cross Brass. He has also performed with all varieties of chamber ensembles, British style brass bands, Civil War era reproduction bands, polka bands, rodeo and circus bands, klezmer bands, posaunenchor, swing bands, and Dixieland jazz bands. Students of Mr. Vinson have achieved successes in many performance endeavors. Since 1992 he has helped students be accepted to the semi-final rounds of the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Competition and the International Tuba-Euphonium Conference competitions (on both euphonium and tuba). His euphonium, trombone, bass trombone, and tuba students have also been accepted to Texas, Connecticut, and Rhode Island All State bands and orchestras, the All-New England Music Festival Association bands and orchestras, MENC's All Eastern Band, McDonald's All American Band, and the music camp at Tanglewood. His students have also won full time positions in military bands such as the Air Force Heartland of America Band (euphonium) and the "Commandant's Own" Marine Drum and Bugle Corp in Washington, D.C. (trombone) and part time in The Air National Guard Band of the Southwest (euphonium). In addition, several of his students have gone on to earn undergraduate and graduate positions (often with large scholarships) at prestigious institutions such as Tennessee Tech University, the University of Miami, the University of North Texas, Baylor University, and the University of Texas (at Austin).
