McGovern College faculty, staff, and students:
In my last update, I announced that several of our faculty members in the College were coordinating an information and action campaign, to inform students of the need, and the process, to cast their vote in the November 2020 elections. We have dubbed this campaign "Pick a Date, Take a Buddy." I thank Profs. Karen Stokes and Toni Valle of the Dance Program in the School of Theatre & Dance for their tireless efforts on this front.
To that end, the College is facilitating and supporting the following:
- Publication of a one-page voting information sheet, available here, with everything you need to know about voting compiled in one place--from registration, to voting procedures, additional information resources, and more.
- A virtual Town Hall Meeting, open to the entire McGovern College community, to convey the information you need to know and take your questions about voting. Mark your calendars for Friday, September 18, at 4:00 PM, online via Teams. Please click here to join the Town Hall meeting.
- A live, in-person Voter Registration Day, held outdoors in Wilhelmina's Grove, in front of the School of Theatre & Dance, all day on Friday, September 25. Harris County Deputy Voter Registrars (all of them members of the McGovern College faculty and staff) will be available to help you register to vote. Further information, including on health and safety protocols for the event, will be made available before September 25.
In light of item 3 above, I ask those members of our faculty and staff who are already registered as Deputy Voter Registrars and who would like to participate in the College's Voter Registration Day on September 18 to please email Karen Stokes or Toni Valle directly.
I appreciate your support of these initiatives. Please contact me directly with questions.
