May 5, 2026 Dear Coog, Relaxed parking rules are now in effect and will continue until 7 a.m. on the first day of the fall semester (Monday, Aug. 24). What is Relaxed Parking?
Relaxed parking is a period when valid UH parking permits can be used to park in any of the ungated and uncovered parking lots on campus. This is in addition to the assigned location associated with your permit. During the fall and spring semesters, relaxed parking is typically observed Monday-Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 a.m., and all day Friday through Sunday. However, from now until the start of the fall semester, relaxed parking is in effect all day long. Areas to Avoid Relaxed parking DOES NOT grant permission to park in:
- Reserved spaces
- Accessible/disabled spaces
- Fire lanes
- 20-minute unloading zones
- Pay-by-phone visitor spaces
- Lot 21C (the visitor pay-by-phone lot near the University Gateway Garage)
- Gated lots and garages (Unless you have a permit for a specific garage or gated lot, in which case you may continue to park in your assigned location as usual)
Please note: Evening-Weekend permits, UH Katy permits, Mon-Wed-Fri and Tues-Thurs garage permits, and apartment permits are NOT eligible to participate in relaxed parking and must follow the rules associated with their permit type at all times. If you have any questions, email parking@uh.edu or call 832-842-1097.
