This exciting weekend is all about bringing together our UH family—students, faculty, staff, and loved ones—for a series of engaging activities and memorable experiences. We’ve planned a fantastic lineup that promises fun and connection for everyone. Save the date and get ready for a weekend filled with joy and camaraderie!

Message from the Vice President for Student Affairs

Dear Cougars,

As we embark on a new academic year, it is my great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to our incoming first-year and transfer students and a heartfelt welcome home to our returning students on behalf of the Division of Student Affairs. Whether you are new to the University of Houston (UH) or coming back for another exciting year, we are thrilled to have you as part of our vibrant Cougar community.

The Division of Student Affairs' mission is to ensure that your college experience is nothing short of exceptional. The Division of Student Affairs provides top-notch services and resources to support your journey, both academically and personally. From our state-of-the-art Student Centers, where you can grab a bite, study, or unwind with friends, to our extensive health and well-being resources, including Campus Recreation, Counseling & Psychological Services, UH Wellness, and more, we are here to help you thrive and achieve.

We understand the importance of balancing academics with well-being, and that is why we offer a variety of services to support your health, both mentally and physically. I have listed a few links below to assist you as you begin a new semester:

•  Cougar Cupboard is here to ensure students have access to nutritious food throughout the year.
•  University Career Services assists students with on-campus employment and internship opportunities.
•  Family Weekend will be hosted on campus from September 27-29, 2024.

Weeks of Welcome (WOW)

Welcome new and returning Coogs! 🐾 Start the year off right with Weeks of Welcome (WOW)- a two-week series of events taking place from August 15th through the 31st. During WOW, you’ll have the chance to dive into campus life with hundreds of events and activities. You can look forward to FREE food, t-shirts, and lots of fun activities. Good Morning Mondays

Good Morning Mondays helps shine some light to kick off the week. What better way to start the week than with free coffee, tea, and donuts? Come over to the A.D. Bruce Religion Center for a quick hot beverage and a sweet treat!

Know Your On-Campus Healthcare Options!

Stop by and learn more about on-campus medical, psychiatric, and pharmacy services.  Representatives of the UH System Student Health Insurance Plan will be available.  There will  be giveaways and you can register for a free drawing!

Rec Fest

Come out to Campus Recreation's annual Rec Fest! It's the ultimate event to kickstart your semester with free food, giveaways, games, prizes, and so much more!

Commuter Movie Night

The Dean of Students Office, Student Program Board, & Veteran Services Office host Commuter Movie Night, which is a free movie night. This event is open to the entire University of Houston community! Attendees will receive free food, snacks, a limited amount of event t-shirts, movie-themed swag items, and prizes while supplies last. Two lucky students will win free zone campus parking for the Fall 2024 semester! This year we are showing: The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

Sunrise & Sunset Yoga

Early Bird or Night Owl? Either way, join us for a 45 minute all levels outdoor yoga class and flow into your wellness.

New MD Anderson Library Service Desk Hours

University of Houston Libraries welcomes new and returning Coogs for the start of a spirited Fall 2024 semester. This academic year, effective Monday, August 19, MD Anderson Library will offer new Service Desk hours. The new schedule is:  Monday – Thursday: 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday Closed, and Sunday: 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m.  The new hours pertain only to the Service Desk on MD Anderson Library floor 1. Building hours will remain the same as in previous semesters.

Behind the Badge 2024

Save the date for Behind the Badge on August 28th, 2-6 p.m. at MD Anderson Library. The event allows the campus community to meet and talk with local law enforcement agencies plus safety partners from UHPD, Office of Emergency Management, EHS, The Fire Marshal, Houston Police Department, and Houston Fire Department.

America in Crisis and Renewal with George Packer

American journalist and acclaimed author George Packer will share his insights into American democracy, the multiple crises and opportunities confronting democracy and the four different Americas at 4 p.m., Sept. 12, in the Rockwell Pavilion at the M.D. Anderson Library.

Recovery Ally Training

This is a training for anyone who wants to learn how to be a recovery ally for those in substance use recovery.
