Fall 2021 Housing COVID-19 FAQs

Can I sign up to live on campus for the fall semester only?

No. The University of Houston only offers Academic Year Agreements. If students graduate in December, they are permitted to cancel their agreement at the end of the fall term without penalty. The Academic Year includes the Fall, Spring, and for Bayou Oaks residents the Summer term. Please note that choosing to live in Bayou Oaks also requires summer occupancy.

How will room assignments be managed for the fall 2021 semester to encourage social distancing in the residential halls?

Student Housing and Residential Life is planning to be at full occupancy for Fall 2021. Students who have a completed application are encouraged to assign themselves to a space from March 1, 2021 – May 31, 2021. After May 31, 2021, any students who have not assigned themselves will be assigned to the next available space in which they qualify to live.

What is the application fee to apply to live on campus?

The application fee is $99 for all students.

What do I do if I need to cancel my Academic Year 2021 – 2022 Agreement for Housing?

Applicants may submit a Cancellation Request in the following ways:

  • Via their myHousing portal
  • By email housing@uh.edu
  • By mail to Student Housing & Residential Life, 4373 Cougar Village Dr, Houston, TX 77204-3018.

Can I request a specific roommate for the 2021-22 academic year?

Because students assign themselves to a space, roommate requests are not accepted. We encourage students to use RoomSync to meet and interact with other students who will be living in campus housing. Once you identify your roommate(s), you all should self-assign to the same room.

After May 31, 2021, roommate requests will be considered by submitting a roommate request to housing@uh.edu. Include your name, student identification number, desired space, and desired roommate name. We cannot guarantee you will be placed with your requested roommate as requests are considered based on room availability. We will honor requests if possible.

Can I move to a different room after the 2021-22 academic year starts?

Yes. You can apply for a room transfer after the 12th class day through our room transfer process which you can access on your myHousing portal.

When is Move-in for Fall 2021?

Fall 2021 Move-in will take place August 18-21, 2021. More information about fall move-in will be available during the summer.

Are residents required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine before moving into on-campus housing?

At this time, residents are not required to receive the COVID-19 Vaccination. However, Student Housing & Residential Life strongly encourages students, in consultation with their health provider, to take the COVID-19 vaccine. We do urge you to be vaccinated if possible. The Student Health Center on campus may offer the COVID-19 Vaccine. Read more about UH vaccine planning efforts.

Can I sign up to live on campus for the spring semester only?

Yes. Agreements for the Spring 2022 term will be available during the first week of October.

How frequently are common areas cleaned?

Our staff is cleaning and disinfecting daily. All high touch areas, such as door handles, faucet handles, flush handles, elevator buttons, and drinking fountains, are disinfected a minimum of two times daily. More information about Housing COVID-19 updates can be found on our COVID-19 website.

What items are residents not allowed to have on campus?
