Enchanting World: Centennial of the 1917 Russian Revolution

The Russian Revolution has had a massive impact on the history of the modern world. Practically overnight, it transformed the lives of 180 million people, former subjects of the Russian tsar. Within a generation, it had indelibly changed the realm of possibility in politics, social engineering, aesthetics, and everything in between. Since then, the Revolution and the Soviet Union have affected the lives of people all over the globe. Therefore, our reflections on the revolutionary dreams of 1917 and their long-lasting legacies will contribute to a deeper understanding of the world today. “Enchanting World” is a series of public events in 2017 to mark the centennial of the 1917 Revolution. Events will include musical concerts, theatrical performances, visual arts exhibitions, public lectures, and symposia. The series offers a unique opportunity to learn about the history and culture of Russia, a country that has so deeply impacted our own, and to grapple with one of the modern world’s most consequential events.
