Texas has been seeing more numbers with those infected by influenza and the season has yet to peak.

Symptoms of the flu include: fever, chills, congestion, cough, sore throat, muscle or body aches, headaches and fatigue. One of the hallmarks is its’ sudden onset.

If you feel you are experiencing the flu and belong to a high risk group, get to your health care professional as soon as possible to see if you’ll qualify for timely treatment with antiviral medication.

Most people with the flu have mild illness and do not need medical care or antiviral drugs. If you get sick with flu symptoms, in most cases, you should stay home and avoid contact with other people except to get medical care.

Prevention tips include:

  1. Wash your hands often and use hand sanitizer to reduce spread of germs
  2. Cough into your sleeve or elbow
  3. If you get sick, stay home
  4. Get the flu vaccine
