College of Education Attends TAFE Conference

On February 14 – 16, 2015, the College of Education came together with other Texas universities and school districts at the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) 2015 Teach Tomorrow Summit at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Over 1,500 delegates were in attendance from various sectors of Texas education.  

A team led by Dr. Andrea Burridge, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies, successfully engaged students from all over Texas by teaching them about the College of Education and the variety of opportunities available.

The College of Education presented at several informational breakout sessions at the conference including “Secrets to Success: Learn Them Now and Thank Me Later” presented by Health Advisor Adrian Husband, “Incorporating STEM teaching Strategies into your Classroom” presented by teachHOUSTON student Tania Graciano, and “Navigating General Studies Requirements as a Future Teacher” presented by CUIN faculty member Dr. Laura Turchi and CUIN doctoral candidate Eve Zehavi. These sessions were geared towards preparing students for collegiate readiness, as well as giving them tools to assist them in their future as an educator.

By attending the TAFE Teach Tomorrow Summit, the College of Education learned how to best prepare for next year when the Summit will be hosted at the University of Houston, College of Education. “We are excited to open our doors to over 1,300 potential future College of Education students,” said Burridge. “This conference will allow high school students to not only learn about the College of Education and its programs, but to open their eyes to the many opportunities available at the University of Houston.”
