COE Receives $100K Grant from Sid Richardson Foundation

Teacher in the classroomThe College of Education is the recipient of a $100,000 grant from the Sid Richardson Foundation, to provide funding for transformation efforts. "Funds from the Sid Richardson Grant will enable the College to continue to focus on innovation," said Anne McClellan, Grant Program Lead.  "It will also provide highly qualified professionals to meet the needs in the Greater Houston Communities."

Specifically, this grant will be used to support the College in hosting the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) Conference in January 2016, at the University of Houston.  With an opportunity to engage with over 4,000 high school students who have identified an interest in teaching, the grant will provide opportunities for students to learn more about the teaching profession and to have a positive early college experience while at the University.  Grant funds will also support the continued redesign and recruitment in the teaching and learning program.  Additionally, the grant will provide start-up funds for motivational coaching and school leadership development pilot programs.

"I appreciate the Sid Richardson Foundation’s continued support of the College of Education," said Robert McPherson, Dean of the UH College of Education.  "Through support like this, we are able to focus on ensuring a healthy pipeline of teachers.  This grant focuses on engaging aspiring teachers and impacting in-service teachers and school leaders."

Established in 1947, Grants from the Sid W. Richardson Foundation help to advance the missions of nonprofit organizations that serve the people of Texas. Grants are made primarily to educational, health, human service, and cultural organizations.  Although his interests reached beyond Texas and his personal contacts were worldwide, Sid Richardson retained his utmost concern for the people of his home state.
