Alumna Rachael Conegie Goes Above and Beyond

Rachael ConegieAlumna Rachael Conegie has been teaching for the last eight years after receiving her Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) degree from the University of Houston’s College of Education. She became interested in HDFS after meeting with her advisor and learning about all the opportunities that program offered.

Conegie’s interest in child outreach began early in her education and she incorporates it in every aspect of her career.  She strives to help those around her in her field whether it is with students, teachers, faculty, or staff.

Conegie’s outreach efforts include helping students with illnesses and disabilities assimilate into the school environment with their peers.  “Rachael was a true hero at Towne Creek for organizing activities to support the recovery of one of her students by communicating things to his 3-year-old classmates, including my son, in a way that was understandable and not upsetting to them” states College of Education associate professor Lorraine Reitzel on Conegie’s role as an active member and educator in her community.   Reitzel goes on to say: “She is an amazing teacher and a caring woman who rallied support for her young student at a critical moment in his life and his family’s lives.”

Conegie goes above and beyond the role of teacher and serves as mentor for her students, using her platform as teacher, not only to educate, but to help and inform all walks of life. Through her role as an educator, Conegie tries to help students by “implementing different learning styles to meet the individual needs of every child” Conegie says. By reaching the needs of her students she strives to create a better since of community by connecting students to each other.

The College of Education is extremely proud of Rachael’s accomplishments and her service to our community.
