Department of Curriculum & Instruction (CUIN) Clinical Assistant Professor Heather Domjan has been appointed the Executive Director of the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston (SEFH).

“It is an honor and privilege to work in the role as Executive Director of the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston,” said Domjan. “This role encompasses a multitude of diverse responsibilities to ensure that as one of the largest regional fairs in the country we provide ongoing local programmatic excellence.” 

In addition to being actively involved with the SEFH Board, Domjan will engage over 800 volunteers and oversee all committees.  Other responsibilities will include: conducting marketing and fundraising events, furthering program development and accounting management, and hosting and attending public relation events.  Domjan will also cultivate long-term strategic partnerships to increase the organization's effectiveness within the community.

Domjan’s position sets a platform for the College of Education to offer its degrees and programs correlated to STEM education to over 1100 SEFH students, their families, and teachers.

One of the major goals for the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston is to recognize a Teacher of the Year for the 9th, 11th and 12th grade levels which is sponsored by the College of Education. “It is crucial that teachers who are the backbone of industry leaders are recognized for their continued efforts and dedication to the field of STEM,” said Domjan. “The College of Education is able to highlight and support the accomplishment of these individuals.”

“I am not surprised by this appointment. Dr. Domjan is a great representative for our department, college and university. Her work consistently stresses the importance of STEM education,” said CUIN chair Jennifer Chauvot.  “I am confident she will exceed all expectations as she leads in the planning and organization of the Science and Engineering Fair (SEFH) of Houston.”

Domjan’s contribution to the Science and Engineering Fair will inspire new generations of STEM students to come.
