Consuelo Arbona Honored with Distinguished Achievement Award

Consuelo ArbonaConsuelo Arbona was recognized as recipient of the 2015 Distinguished Achievement Award by the Society of Vocational Psychology (SVP), a Section of the Division of Counseling Psychology of the American Psychological Association (APA).  

Arbona is a professor in the Counseling Psychology Program in the Department of Psychological, Health and Learning Sciences (PHLS) and a fellow of two APA divisions: Counseling Psychology (17) and Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues (45).

Arbona accepted her award at the 2015 APA convention in Toronto, Canada during the Society of Vocational Psychology Business Meeting/Awards Presentation.  

Her nominators for the award noted Arbona’s  “many and sustained contributions to vocational psychology, which include national evaluations of educational and career development programs commissioned by the U. S. Department of Education Office of Planning and Evaluation.”  

Saba Rasheed Ali, SVP Chair, indicated that the award also recognizes Arbona’s work as “a role model and mentor for Latina women to pursue research careers in vocational psychology.”

“I am honored and humbled to receive this recognition from my peers,” said Arbona. “Mentoring students and contributing knowledge to enhance the career development and psychological well-being of Latina/o students continues to be the focus of my work.” Ezemenari Obasi, PHLS Chair, added “it is amazing to have Dr. Arbona’s work recognized by such a prestigious organization.”

Currently, Arbona serves on the Executive Committee of the Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues (APA Division 45) and is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Latina/o Psychology. She also serves on the Editorial Board of The Counseling Psychologist and the Journal of Counseling Psychology.
