Effective July 11, 2016, Student Housing and Residential Life welcomes Courtney McElroy and Douglas Bell as Assistant Directors to their team.
Courtney McElroy has been hired to serve as the Assistant Director of Housing and will lead Recruitment/Selection and Advising, in addition to supervising staff in Cougar Village 1 and 2. Courtney has ten years of residence life experience having worked at Florida International University, East Carolina University, University of Mississippi, and most recently as an Assistant Director of Residence Life at the University of Texas, Austin. In addition to previously serving as the Advisor of the Residential Hall Association, Courtney has been an instructor for a First-Year Experience course, RA class and is Advisor Recognition and Training certified. McElroy has a Masters in Higher Education and Student Personnel and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Meteorology from the University of Mississippi.
Douglas Bell has been hired as the Assistant Director of Residence Life with a focus area in Student Conduct and he will supervise the staff in Bayou Oaks and Calhoun Lofts. With eleven years of student affairs experience, Bell recently served as the Senior Coordinator for Student Conduct/Assessment at the University of Georgia where he is also completing his doctoral degree in College Student Affairs Administration. He plans to complete his dissertation on “Exploratory Examination of Behavioral Case Management Models: A Mixed Method Study of the Interrelationship of Student Conduct, Behavioral Intervention and Threat Assessment” later this year. Douglas earned his Master’s degree in College Student Affairs Administration from the University of West Florida and also posses a Master’s degree in Sports Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.
