Michelle Rice-Shaw will join the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services as executive administrative assistant effective October 5, 2015. The executive administrative assistant works with multiple university executives in the office of the Vice Chancellor/Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Services and is responsible for coordinating, directing, and managing the office. In this role, Michelle will be coordinating the daily schedule of the executives with staff, administrators, alumni, students, the Board of Regents, government officials, and community leaders. She will also serve as a liaison for the DSAES by assisting students needing assistance with departments within the division and across the university, by responding to general inquiries, student issues, and other correspondences, and by coordinating logistics for university and community-related events. She will also be responsible for advancement related tasks including processing incoming donor gifts and preparing gift acknowledgments and correspondences.

Michelle brings 16 years of higher education experience including six years in administrative support. Since arriving at the University of Houston in 1999, she has served in various roles in multiple divisions. Most recently, she served in the Division of University Advancement as an administrative assistant and an executive secretary. Prior to that, Michelle served as development coordinator in the Office of Planned Giving and in the College of Pharmacy, where she developed fundraising strategies and provided donor stewardship. She has also worked as a special events coordinator and a secretary in the Cullen College of Engineering.

Michelle earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Spelman College. “I believe Michelle’s experience and years of service at the University of Houston will allow her to hit the ground running and contribute effectively as a member of our team,” said vice chancellor/vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Services, Dr. Richard Walker. “Please join me in welcoming Michelle to our division.”
