The Division of Student Affairs, Veteran Services, is thrilled to announce the newest addition to our team, LaKeshia Villegas. With immense pride and excitement, we welcome LaKeshia Assistant Director for Veteran Services, a role that will undoubtedly enhance our commitment to serving our student veterans and military-affiliated community.
LaKeshia brings with her a wealth of experience, dedication, and a profound connection to the veteran community. Having served proudly in the United States Navy, she understands the unique challenges and opportunities that veterans face as they transition from military service to higher education to complete their degrees. Her firsthand experience as a student veteran further deepens her understanding of the needs and aspirations of our military-affiliated students. LaKeshia’s a firm believer in making a way for yourself and not letting anything hold you back. She has a personal quote she lives by from the late, esteemed, Shirley Chisholm, “If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.”
Before joining the University of Houston, LaKeshia made a significant impact at the University of Houston at Clear Lake, where she was Assistant Director and School Certifying Official. During her tenure, she demonstrated exceptional leadership and a steadfast commitment to providing exceptional support and guidance to student veterans. Her expertise in coordinating educational benefits, advocating for veterans' needs, and fostering a welcoming and inclusive campus environment has made her a respected figure in the veteran services field.
As she embarks on this exciting journey with the Division of Student Affairs, LaKeshia brings her passion for empowering student veterans and her dedication to ensuring their success. Her leadership and insights will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in advancing our mission to provide comprehensive support and resources for our military-affiliated students.
