end of year Office Safety Tips

The University of Houston Police Department wishes each residential student a safe and peaceful holiday season. To make the best of your holiday break, we have prepared a safety checklist to aid you while away from your apartment or residential room. Take a moment to browse through these tips.

Card Access Updates

Starting Thursday, December 24 at 6 p.m., classrooms and all exterior doors will be in card-only mode with normal operating scheduled resuming on Monday, January 5.

 Dispose of Perishables 

Empty out the fridge and dispose or donate any perishable items to avoid  
returning to a foul smell.

Lab Safety

While the majority of the university will be closed for the winter break, certain 
research laboratory activities will remain in operation. For laboratories that will pause operations, please follow proper guidance on pausing laboratory activities. For laboratories that will be operational please maintain adequate supplies in the laboratory and practice the buddy system.

Electronics and Appliances 

Save energy and reduce the risk of electrical issues by unplugging non-essential electronics before leaving. Additionally, turn off appliances such as lights, fans, and other non-essentials.
