June is National Safety Month—a time to highlight the importance of safety in every aspect of our lives. At the University of Houston, several departments within the Division of Administration and Finance offer a wide range of safety resources for students, faculty, and staff.
Stay Cougar S.A.F.E.
The Stay Cougar S.A.F.E. website serves as a centralized hub for campus safety resources.
It connects users to departments such as:
- University of Houston Police Department (UHPD)
- Environmental Health and Safety
- Fire & Life Safety
- Office of Emergency Management
It also includes safety-adjacent services like Parking & Transportation, Cougar Card Services, Automotive and Fleet Management, and Risk Management. The site is regularly updated with safety news, feature stories, and resources.
- University Services
UH provides numerous tools and services to help ensure the safety of its campus community: - Cougar Ride After-Hours Shuttle
Offered by Parking & Transportation Services, this shuttle provides rides to and from all on-campus shuttle stops, including MD Anderson Library, Cougar Village, and Moody Towers. - Emergency Blue Light Phones
With over 240 phones located across campus, these devices connect users directly to UH dispatch for emergency assistance. View their locations on the UH interactive map. - UH Go App
A must-have for all campus members, the UH Go app (available for iOS and Android) includes:- Access to Cougar Ride After-Hours
- An Emergency Call Button that connects users—and their location—directly to UHPD

University of Houston Police Department (UHPD)
UHPD offers CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) training to prepare students, faculty, and staff for active shooter scenarios.

Security Escorts: Call or text 713-743-3333 to request an officer escort.
Emergency Texting: The same number can be used for emergency text communication.
Fire & Life Safety
The Fire Marshal’s Office offers:
General Fire Safety Training
Fire Extinguisher Training using the Bullseye Digital Fire Extinguisher System
They also provide American Heart Association Heart Saver CPR/AED training—a four-hour,
in-person course teaching how to respond to cardiac emergencies. Visit the Fire &

Office of Emergency Management (OEM)
OEM offers two key training programs:
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
Held twice a year, CERT training covers disaster preparedness, fire suppression,
medical operations, search and rescue, and more.
Hurricane Preparedness
Includes a checklist of essential items for your hurricane readiness kit.
