June 3-July 2: 2016 Texas Music Festival features Franz Anton Krager and Mark Hughes

The Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival was founded in 1990 to provide young professional musicians with a challenging musical environment in which to develop skills in orchestral, chamber music, and solo performance. The event also features appearances by renowned musicians. Guest artists at this year’s event include Franz Anton Krager (conductor), Mark Hughes (trumpet), Hans Graf (conductor), and Mei-Ann Chen (conductor). Ticket prices begin at $10 for students and $20 for general admission. read more

June 4: Blaffer Art Museum Exhibition opening featuring Hilary Lloyd

Featuring video sculptures, projections and installations, this solo exhibition of new works by British artist Hilary Lloyd is the first U.S. museum presentation of her work. read more

June 4: Blaffer Art Museum Exhibition opening featuring Matthew Ronay

This exhibition, the artist’s first major museum presentation in the United States, surveys a recent body of meticulously hand-crafted and vibrantly colored sculptures, reliefs and installations. read more

June 4 — July 2: Undergraduate study abroad program in Spain

Undergraduate students will be immersed in the culture, language and lifestyle of Cádiz, Spain during this unique educational experience through this faculty-led program. read more

June 27 — July 29: Graduate study abroad program in Spain

The growing importance of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture within the US and the subsequent social necessity and demand for teachers and professionals properly trained in these areas has led the University of Houston and the University of Salamanca to program a Master’s Degree in Spanish Language and Hispanic Culture. read more


July 5 August 7: Study abroad program in China

CLASS’s Chinese program provides a faculty-led summer study abroad program in China. The program is academically rigorous and culturally enriching. It offers seven language courses at all proficiency levels, and four culture, film, and Asian economic courses taught in English. read more


July 29 August 7: Houston Shakespeare Festival

Each summer, the Houston Shakespeare Festival produces a season of two Shakespeare plays in repertory. This year’s cast members include Brendan Marshall-Rashid in the title role in “Henry V” and Demetria Thomas as Beatrice in “Much Ado About Nothing.” Since its inception in 1975, HSF has entertained nearly a half million theatergoers with free performances in Hermann Park’s Miller Outdoor Theatre. read more
