The University of Houston College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) congratulates Center for Arab Studies Director and AAEF Chair in Modern Arab History Abdel Razzaq Takriti, who received the 2019 Undergraduate Education Award from the Middle East Studies Association of North America (MESA). Along with his co-author, University of Oxford professor Karma Nabulsi, Takriti was recognized for his outstanding work in helping fellow Middle East scholars and educators master the craft of teaching undergraduate students.

The award committee noted that Takriti and Nabulsi “stood out with their unique, lasting contribution to undergraduate education in the field, even beyond their inspirational role in students’ lives.” Takriti and Nabulsi were especially commended for their website, The Palestinian Revolution. This digital humanities resource allows educators to include Palestinian voices in their instruction and allows students to access primary sources for their coursework.

MESA is the nation’s leading learned society focused on Middle East studies, with more than 2,700 members. Takriti was presented with the award on November 15 at MESA’s annual meeting in New Orleans.
