Julie Tolliver is assistant professor of French in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages. Her research and teaching interests focus on Francophone literature and film, solidarity in a (post)colonial context, and the racialized and gendered tropes that structure French-language culture. She recently co-edited a special issue of the Journal of Postcolonial Writing titled Alternative Solidarities: Black Cultural Alliances during the Cold War (2014), and she is currently working on a manuscript titled Tongue Ties: A Poetics of Solidarity in Francophone Independence Literatures. She regularly teaches “Francophone African Cinema” (FREN 3321/3322, offered in English).
