Summary: Mariana Villareal, a poor girl who experienced a life of hardship, marries wealthy businessman Luis Alberto Salvatierra, who gives her the life of comfort and leisure that once seemed so unattainable. Shortly after their honeymoon, a family friend stops by for a visit and Mariana suddenly faints into his arms. Witnessing this embrace, Luis Alberto becomes convinced that the two are having an affair. When Mariana learns that she is pregnant, Luis Alberto refuses to believe that the baby is his, forcing Mariana to give her baby up for adoption. The pain of losing her child soon drives Mariana on a search that will dominate her life from that moment on.
