Alexander Parsons earned his BA at Wesleyan University, an MFA at The Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and an MA from New Mexico State University. Formerly an editor and freelance writer in New York, Washington D.C., and South America, his first novel Leaving Disneyland, was published by Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press after winning the 2001 A.W.P. Series Award for the Novel. His second novel, In the Shadows of the Sun, was published by Nan A. Talese Books and was chosen a 2005 Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection. Before joining the Creative Writing Program at the University of Houston, Parsons taught in the MFA program at the University of New Hampshire.
