Local Knowledge

CCS is a departmental partner of The Center for Public History.

Through our teaching, we create opportunities for students to engage in collaborative, investigative original research projects with community partners to both enhance local knowledge and generate global insights. The community-driven projects and experiential research training offered through our courses mentor CCS students for diverse future careers by combining research practices — including ethnography, oral history, archaeology, or archival methods — with professional writing and the latest technologies in digital humanities.

These course-based student research projects related to the culture and history of the Houston metropolitan region may be considered for publication in The Center for Public History’s magazine Houston History.
