Faculty Artist Series: Hope Cowan, Harp - Dreams & Nightmares: Exploring Inner Worlds

Monday, February 17, 2025

7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Come enjoy the another exciting recital in the Moores School of Music Faculty Artist Series! Affiliate Artist in Harp, Hope Cowan performs Dreams and Nightmares: Exploring Inner Worlds. Featuring works for harp and electronics, this program delves into the inner workings of the human psyche and explores themes of beauty, loss, identity, and grief. The sounds of harp, flute, viola and electronics are used to transport the audience to the true “final frontier”: that of the human mind. This immersive experience of electroacoustic sound and lighting creates a magical environment where dreams come alive. The program concludes with Valentina V. by Timothy Roy, a Texas premiere of this award-winning mono-drama for harp and electronics centered on the life and experience of 14th century Italian noblewoman Valentina Visconti.

A professional harpist based in Houston, Hope Cowan frequently performs as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and event harpist. She is sought after as a harp teacher, and teaches lessons to students of all ages. She is harp faculty at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music.

Originally from La Crosse, Wisconsin, Ms. Cowan relocated to Houston, Texas in 2009 to pursue her music education. She has a Master’s of Music degree from Rice University and a Bachelor’s of Music from the University of Houston, both under the instruction of Paula Page.
